Pandoras box arcade game list1/18/2024 ![]() Wasn't real enthused to spend money to drop yet another generic PC into a cabinet. I deal with Mac, Windows and Linux all the time. ![]() The reason I went with a Pandora Box was the fact I already own several home computers and I work in I.T. It's going to offer a bunch of variants of Street Fighter and some random classics like Qix, QBert or Zaxxon too. If you'd be perfectly happy with a cade that runs all the popular Pac Man variants, Frogger, Centipede/Millipede, Donkey Kong 1,2,3 and Jr., Burgertime, Dig Dug, Galaga and some shooters like 1942/1943? Pandora Box DX is all you need. Other 3D titles may just feel sluggish compared to how you know it's supposed to play. They run well initially but I've had them crash to a black, frozen screen when I get far enough in them fighting all the various characters. ![]() They have Tekken 1,2, and 3 on mine - all emulated from game consoles. They look more modern and visually improved over the other content - but these are the ones most likely to have emulation issues too. It offers a relatively small collection of titles labeled "3D" too. I posted about it a few times before, so apologizes if some of you have seen me discuss it already.īut my experience has been, it works just fine when all you care about is having a big collection of older 2D arcade titles (especially if you have an interest in the foreign ones you typically don't see often in the USA). I have a multicade with a Pandora Box DX running it. It all comes down to your goals and what you want to achieve in the arcade community. Ultimately, it comes down to what you want to accomplish.ĭo you want to just play games (and don't care about the cabinet) at a cheap price? Then a Pandora's box will work for you.ĭo you want to build a custom cabinet? Then Pandora's box can work great for older games at an affordable price.īut for arcade collectors, Pandora's box has little to no value. You are preserving an arcade cabinet that thousands of people probably played on in the past. It also adds a feeling of owning a "part of history". Many wish to play arcade machines from their childhood or younger years. They collect arcade cabinets out of nostalgia, and a desire to relive the past. That said, a lot of people in the arcade community value original (unmodified) arcade cabinets. They can be put into custom modded arcade cabinets fairly easily. They allow people with low incomes (or those who don't wish to spend a lot of money) the chance to experience arcade and console games from the past. The PLUS side is that they are very affordable. Good luck getting any customer support either. So they have a "sketchy" reputation within the community. This means some games don't run properly or lag badly - particularly the 3D games. They are usually Chinese made, and use the lowest quality hardware available. Pandora's Boxes are essentially bootleg consoles loaded with thousands of games. Basically it seems rather limiting compared to taking a more diy approach with an old PC. That'd be sucky, especially if you want to use a more unusual controller like a trackball or steering wheel with the games. I also heard you can't really get into the emulator settings to customize controls. Rumor had it that it used older versions of mame as well, leading to some games having glitches or poor performance, when that issue had been long solved if you just download the latest version of mame. And they had ps1 stuff but not Dreamcast or GameCube or PS2 (in case you want console stuff on your machine). That's a substantial amount of 3d and more modern arcade games, many of which are highly popular and fun, that you are missing out on. It could do mame, which is mostly emulation of 2d stuff from the 80s and 90s, but there's so much more out there that the system didn't seem to do, like emulators for sega model 2 and 3 games, and Sega Naomi and atomiswave and teknoparrot weren't on these. It's been awhile since I paid attention to the game list on these, but when I looked into it before, it seemed like a much worse concept than doing an emulation PC build.
